If you need a free, no-fuss quiz with automatic grading, Google Forms is outstanding value and endlessly reliable, which is why it is a classroom staple. Just do not expect custom branding, personality-quiz logic, or lead capture: for marketing quizzes it simply is not built for the job.

Ratings and review counts as shown on Capterra and SourceForge on October 3, 2026; the big number is the average weighted by review count. Themes summarize points that come up repeatedly in public reviews and are paraphrased. These are user ratings, not our score. G2 rates Google Forms as part of Google Workspace, so it is not shown here.
We tested Google Forms’ quiz mode, its design limits, and its pricing, then compared it with dedicated quiz makers like Riddle, Typeform, and Interact to see whether a free tool can really keep up.
What is Google Forms?
Google Forms is Google’s free form and survey builder, part of the Google Workspace family. Its “Make this a quiz” setting turns any form into a graded quiz with correct answers, point values, and automatic scoring – which is why it is a staple in classrooms. Responses flow straight into Google Sheets for analysis. It is not built for marketing or shareable personality quizzes, but for straightforward quizzes and data collection it is remarkably capable for a free tool.
Key features
- Quiz mode: Auto-grading, correct answers, per-question points, and instant feedback.
- Question types: Multiple choice, checkboxes, dropdowns, short answer, linear scale, and more.
- Logic: Basic section-based branching (go to section based on answer).
- Google Sheets: One-click export of responses to a live spreadsheet.
- Collaboration: Real-time co-editing, just like Docs and Sheets.
Ease of use and interface
If you have used any Google app, you already know how to use Google Forms. The interface is clean, uncluttered, and fast, and you can build a working quiz in a couple of minutes. The trade-off is limited design control: a handful of themes and colors, but nothing close to the custom branding, fonts, and result pages you get from Riddle or Typeform.
Pricing and plans
Google Forms is free for anyone with a Google account, with no cap on the number of forms or responses. You only pay if you want it as part of a Google Workspace subscription for business email and admin controls (prices in USD, per user):
- Personal use: Free – unlimited forms and responses.
- Business Starter: $7/user/month billed annually ($8.40 monthly).
- Business Standard: $14/user/month billed annually ($16.80 monthly).
- Business Plus: $22/user/month billed annually ($26.40 monthly).
- Enterprise: Custom pricing via Google Sales.
AI assistant and MCP access
Google offers official MCP servers for Workspace (in developer preview), but Forms is not among them: they cover Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Chat and People. Connecting an AI assistant to Google Forms currently needs a community-built server, which we have not tested. Checked October 6, 2026 (source).
API access
Google offers the Forms API (v1) to create forms, update them in batches, set publish settings, read responses and watch for new ones. It supports quizzes, including grading with point values and correct answers. It is free to use with a Google account. Checked October 6, 2026 (API docs). Pros and cons

- July 2026: Gemini “Help me create” can now build a complete quiz, including answer keys and several question types, from a prompt or from Drive files like Docs, Slides and PDFs. It needs an eligible Workspace, Education or Google AI plan (source).
Final verdict
For students, teachers, and anyone who needs a free, no-fuss quiz with automatic grading, Google Forms is outstanding value. For marketers who want branded, engaging, lead-generating quizzes, it simply is not built for the job – a dedicated quiz maker is the better choice. As a free quiz tool, it earns 3.5/5.
FAQ
Is Google Forms free?
Yes. Google Forms is completely free with a Google account, including unlimited forms and unlimited responses. You only pay if you use it as part of a paid Google Workspace subscription.
Can Google Forms create quizzes?
Yes. Turning on the ‘Make this a quiz’ option adds automatic grading, correct answers, per-question point values, and instant feedback, which makes it popular in education.
Does Google Forms have response limits?
No. There are no response limits – you can collect an unlimited number of responses for free.
Can you remove Google branding from a form?
Not fully. Forms are hosted by Google and carry light Google branding; there is no white-label option to remove it the way dedicated quiz makers allow.
Is Google Forms good for lead generation?
It is excellent for education and simple internal quizzes, but it lacks the custom branding, CRM integrations, and personality-quiz logic that marketers get from tools like Riddle or Interact.
