Opinary is a proven poll network for large news publishers: one-tap opinion polls placed in articles and newsletters, followed by a subscription, newsletter or sponsored message. It is not a quiz maker. There are three poll formats, no quizzes or personality tests, no self-serve sign-up and no public pricing.
Testing note: Opinary offers no self-serve trial (its six-week trial is only for publishers after a consultation), so we could not test it hands-on ourselves. This review is based on publicly available information: Opinary’s own product, publisher, FAQ, imprint and privacy pages and its owner’s press release, all checked October 1, 2026. We compare it with Pinpoll, Opinion Stage and Riddle.
Opinary user reviews at a glance
We found no public user reviews of Opinary on G2, Capterra or SourceForge (checked October 5, 2026). Opinary sells mainly through demos and direct contracts, so there is no user rating to show yet.
We check these sites monthly and will add ratings here once at least 5 reviews appear on one of them. These would be user ratings, not our score.
What is Opinary?
Opinary is a Berlin company that makes embeddable opinion polls for news sites and newsletters. Readers vote with one tap, then see a call to action, such as a newsletter sign-up, a subscription offer or a sponsored brand message. Opinary names publishers like the Financial Times, The Times, Der Spiegel, Stern and Yahoo as partners (source). Since 2023 it has been owned by the US adtech group Affinity Global, and its technology also powers Affinity’s mCanvas ad business in Germany (source).
Key features
- Three poll formats: Speedometer, slider and multiple choice with images (source).
- Automated placement: An algorithm places contextually matching polls from your poll library into articles, with Opinary’s team curating them.
- Conversion units: After the vote, readers can be offered a subscription, a newsletter or a podcast (source).
- Monetization: Sponsored polls from Opinary’s advertiser network, at a stated CPM of 4 euros for publishers, with native, story and video ad formats after the vote (source).
- Audience data: Follow-up questions and voluntarily provided reader data for audience building.
- Analytics: A dashboard with analytics and conversion tabs, plus weekly email reports on request.
Ease of use and interface
For a newsroom, Opinary is low-effort: you add an embed code to your article template once, and Opinary says creating a poll in its dashboard takes no more than two minutes (choose a format, write the question, preview, save). Its team also suggests questions daily. For anyone else, there is nothing to try: there is no public sign-up, access starts with a consultation, and we found no Opinary listings with user reviews on G2 or Capterra. You cannot build a scored knowledge quiz or a personality quiz with it.
Pricing and plans
Opinary does not publish prices and has no self-serve plan. Publishers can start with a free six-week trial with full support, followed by an evaluation meeting (source). Publishers can also earn money from sponsored polls, while brands buy sponsored polls as an ad product. Checked October 1, 2026.
Privacy and support
Opinary polls collect shortened IP addresses and use advertising cookies or local storage, based on consent collected through the publisher’s consent tool. Opinary is a registered IAB Europe TCF vendor, works with publishers under a joint controller agreement, and says data may be transferred to the US under standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Brand partners may add retargeting pixels, which Opinary says it does not control (source). We found no ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certificate. Partners get ongoing technical and editorial support by email and phone; we found no public help center.
Pros and cons
- Proven with major news publishers and newsletters
- Built-in subscription and newsletter conversion after the vote
- Can earn publishers money through sponsored polls
- Very little newsroom effort once installed
- Only three poll formats; no quizzes or personality tests
- No public pricing or self-serve sign-up
- Advertising model with partner retargeting pixels
- No independent user reviews to check
Final verdict
If you run a large news site or newsletter and want low-effort opinion polls that grow subscriptions and can pay for themselves through sponsored polls, Opinary is worth a conversation. If you want to build quizzes, assessments, personality tests or lead forms yourself, it is the wrong tool: the formats are limited to polls, and there is no self-serve access or public pricing. As a quiz maker it earns 2.8/5; publishers who also want quizzes should compare Pinpoll, Opinion Stage or Riddle.
