Are you looking for quiz maker alternatives to LeadQuizzes? LeadQuizzes (often called Lead Quizzes), has been one of the quiz marketing industry mainstays since it launched in 2015.
But we’ve noticed a recent spike by marketers and companies actively looking for new alternatives to LeadQuizzes. They’re searching for greater flexibility around quiz creation and customization, and are extremely concerned around global data privacy regulations (such as the EU’s GDPR, CCPA).
LeadQuizzes was one of the very first online quiz software companies – they started up in 2015 with a tight focus on making it easy to collect leads and grow your email list using online quizzes. And they did well initially – with some great press and kudos from marketing maven Neil Patel.
But… recently, it seems like LeadQuizzes has lost their way. Their quiz platform has fallen far behind its competitors – and we haven’t noticed any major new features or capabilities in quite some time.
Our team at Quiz-Maker-Review has been writing impartial reviews of the leading online quiz creators for years – so dive on in, and check out our top alternatives to LeadQuizzes.

We include a quick synopsis of each online quiz creator’s strengths and weaknesses – and links to our more in-depth coverage around each quiz maker, covering:
- Types of quizzes
- Quiz customization options
- White-labeled content
- Lead generation and data integrations
- GDPR and data privacy
- and much more
Why consider alternatives to LeadQuizzes?
No quiz maker is right for every use case – your business is unique, and only you can decide which online quiz creator will meet your particular needs.
As one of the earliest quiz maker software providers, LeadQuizzes has been around for quite some time.
However, their platform has not evolved with the times. We’ve seen zero new changes or features since we’ve started reviewing LeadQuizzes (we checked their site, their blog, and even their inactive Twitter feed).
We’ll cover the key points for each of the following areas, to help illustrate why folks are looking for alternatives to LeadQuizzes.
But you can sum it up as “Today’s quiz marketers want… MORE”:
- More creative freedom – LeadQuizzes has just two types of quizzes, and basic ones at that (compared to 15 for Riddle, or 8 for Outgrow and Involve.me). This severely limits your marketing team’s flexibility to create compelling quizzes, polls, and other content.
- More multimedia options – you can only upload images or link to entire YouTube clips. Forget GIFs, Unsplash, or MP4 video and MP3 audio.
- More customization features – LeadQuizzes gives you very few choices, basically just colors, background image, and fonts. No CSS, custom fonts, and other options.
- More multi-user/team features – there are no teams or the ability for multiple users and access roles.
And beyond quiz features, we’ve heard rumbles in review sites and on social media around LeadQuizzes’ pricing, support options, and data privacy practices:
- Pricing – while we love their ‘all features available on all plans’, they have very low monthly user limits.
- Customer support – LeadQuizzes offers pretty sub-standard customer support. They’re only available seven hours a day, and take a few hours to respond to simple questions.
- Data privacy – this is a big one. They’re not the worst we’ve seen (that dubious honor goes to TryInteract and Typeform), but LeadQuizzes adds trackers and cookies to your quizzes, to collect your audience data without their consent. Definitely not GDPR-compliant.
More quiz formats, please
On the plus side, LeadQuizzes offers a good range of 78 quiz templates. That can help new folks to quiz marketing get started.
However, the bad news? They only offer two types of quizzes – and no polls, surveys, or other types of formats.
Leadquizzes lets you choose from:
- ‘Scoring logic’ quiz – this is LeadQuizzes version of a pop quiz. You can test users’ knowledge by asking them questions with correct/incorrect answer choices.
- ‘Outcome logic’ quiz – LeadQuizzes also offers a personality test, where you give each quiz taker an overall result, based on their quiz answers.
The lack of quiz formats is one thing – but each type of quiz is also severely limited by a lack of features. For example:
Scoring logic quizzes don’t actually have scoring logic (!!!). Unlike every other online quiz maker, with LeadQuizzes, you don’t mark a question right or wrong, then give points.
Nope, you have to add an extra ‘answer’ block – and crucially, there’s no way to give a total score (e.g. “You got 15/20 correct”). You just get a ‘thank you’ page – which is very disappointing from a user-experience perspective.
Their ‘outcome logic’ test is a bit better – you can map responses to different result outcomes. But it’s ‘all or nothing’.
You can’t weigh how each answer maps to each outcome – it’s very linear (answer A -> 100% to result A).
We prefer online quiz creators with a points-based weighting option, so you can say Answer A -> 5 pts to result A, Answer B -> 10 pts to result A and 5 pts to result B.
That’s much more nuanced and flexible – which gives more sophisticated outcomes.
More multimedia options (seriously)
We already touched on this – but LeadQuizzes is designed for text and static image questions only. You can’t create an audio quiz, for example.
They don’t support any in-tool image library options – such as Unsplash, Giphy, Pexels, or Pixabay. This means you’ll need to find each image, download it to your computer, then re-upload to your quiz.
LeadQuizzes also doesn’t support high-end video or audio options, like Vimeo or MP4 video/MP3 audio clips.
More customization options (!)
We mentioned this earlier – but LeadQuizzes offers very limited customization options.
It’s fine if you’re creating a basic quiz for a small company, but a critical handicap if you’re looking to make polished interactive content that blends seamlessly with your site and brand.
You can see this come up in reviews about LeadQuizzes – it’s obviously a pain point for the quiz marketing community:
More (or any) team or multi-user functionality
Another reason to look for alternatives to LeadQuizzes?
LeadQuizzes is quiz software designed for small companies or solo-preneurs. Unlike Survey Monkey or Riddle, you can’t create workspaces by team, department, or client – so your colleagues can collaborate when they make a quiz.
And equally, your LeadQuizzes account will include just a single log-in, so only one person at a time can access the account.
If you’re part of a larger company, you can’t create log-ins for different users. That’s a big weakness – and why LeadQuizzes is only suitable for very small teams.
Pricing, support, and data privacy
Now, in theory, we do like the bold thinking behind the pricing strategy for LeadQuizzes. Every single plan = gets every single feature, and you just pay on how much you’ll use the online quiz creator platform.
That sounds good – but LeadQuizzes made one key mistake. Your monthly usage limit counts page visitors – NOT quiz takers. So, the 5,000 visitors a month with their Starter plan counts everyone who lands on your page.
And since quizzes average a 15-20% start rate, that means you’ll only get around 1,000 quiz takers a month. Ugh. Not good value and yet another reason people are looking at alternatives to LeadQuizzes.
(Their highest plan does include unlimited visitors – but that’s fairly pricey.)
We also touched on support – modern marketers need fast support, 365 days a year. If you’re running a high profile campaign, and you have an urgent question, waiting just isn’t going to cut it.
LeadQuizzes offers chat support for just 7 hours a day – and their entire team is offline for key periods, such as the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
That’s simply not good enough.
Finally, let’s talk about LeadQuizzes and data privacy.
We don’t have space to go into great detail but for now, let’s just leave sum it up – LeadQuizzes is not GDPR-compliant quiz maker.
- Servers run by American companies – which is no longer legal based on the invalid EU/US Privacy Shield.
- Saving personal information in the U.S.
- Adding trackers and cookies to your quizzes – to collect data on your audience.

Our top alternatives to LeadQuizzes
1. Riddle
Riddle won our ‘Editor’s Choice Award’ for 2021; it’s pretty obvious that our team at QMR like their approach as an online quiz maker.
We created this high-level rundown of some reasons to add them to your list of alternatives to LeadQuizzes.
Check out our in-depth review of Riddle!
What we liked @ Riddle
- 15 interactive formats (quizzes, polls, surveys) – Content flexibility is one of the main differentiators of Riddle. They have the most personality quizzes, polls, and other interactive formats of any tool we’ve tested – with 800% more than the two types of quizzes LeadQuizzes offers.
- Unlimited usage (all plans) – Riddle also stands out in the alternatives to LeadQuizzes due to their pricing. LeadQuizzes gives all features to all plans – but then puts low monthly usage limits. Riddle takes another approach – you pick the plan with the features you want, but every plan gives you unlimited quiz creation, as well as quiz takers and quiz leads. That’s much simpler – quizzes are some of the most shared content online. This way, you don’t have to worry about traffic spikes driving up your costs.
- Lots of languages (67 different options!) – Riddle’s approach to language support wowed us. You can make a quiz in 67 languages – and that includes right-to-left languages like Arabic and Hebrew, as well as characters like Chinese and Japanese. Plus, their online quiz creator is available in English, French, German, and Spanish.
- The most data privacy and GDPR-compliant quiz maker – Riddle stood out in this category, thanks to their meticulous GDPR-compliance. They don’t add any scripts or cookies to your quizzes, so they won’t collecct your audience’s personal data. Plus, they’re a fully EU-based company, who chose German cloud storage companies over U.S.-owned options like AWS or Google. They’ve even swapped out tools like Google Analytics and Intercom in favour of their own self-hosted alternatives.
- Awesome videos, audio, GIFs, and image options – quizzes work best when they offer multimedia experiences. Riddle clearly has spent a lot of time giving letting quiz creators go beyond simply words and images. You have in-tool options to create an audio quiz (MP3 clips), or rapidly find and use video (MP4 files, Vimeo, YouTube), and animated GIFs (Giphy), plus image services including Google and Pexels.
Things to consider @ Riddle
Although Riddle has a decent range of native integrations (including MailChimp, AWeber, ActiveCampaign, and Google Sheets) for their quiz lead generation module, they don’t have as many as some of the other tools we’ve reviewed.
However, Riddle does give you access to 3,000 software tools (Hubspot, Salesforce, Klaviyo) using Zapier – or you can modify their webhook to directly connect to your software.
Quiz Maker Review’s rating for Riddle:
- Range of quiz formats: ★★★★★
- Customization options: ★★★★★
- Lead generation: ★★★★☆
- Data privacy: ★★★★★
- Pricing: ★★★★☆
- Overall: ★★★★★
2. Involve.me
We also had to include a start-up from Austria called Involve.me in our recommended alternatives to LeadQuizzes.
They’ve been around since 2018.
Launched in 2018, they were originally called Brandquiz. The team specialised in interactive content for agencies and companies. In 2019, however, they re-branded as Involve.me to hone in on small and medium businesses.
Check out our in-depth review of Involve.me!
What we liked @ Involve.me
This was the most useful feature of their online quiz creator. Involve.me has chosen a quiz architecture around blocks. It’s super-flexible, and provides you more control over how and where questions, lead forms, and ads are shown.
- Be warned though – there is a learning curve involved. Involve.me is a powerful quiz creator – but it’s not very intuitive or easy to use.
- It’s clear Involve.me knows this, and we like their wide range of quiz templates, to help make getting started easier.
- Quiz by building blocks – this was the most useful feature of their online quiz creator. Involve.me has chosen a quiz architecture around blocks. It’s super-flexible, and provides you more control over how and where questions, lead forms, and ads are shown.
- Be warned though – there is a learning curve involved. Involve.me is not a very intuitive online quiz maker.
- It’s clear Involve.me knows this, and we like their wide range of quiz templates, to help make getting started easier.
- Types of quizzes – Outgrow and Involve.me place 2nd behind Riddle in terms of how many types of quizzes or interactive content they offer. Involve.me supports ‘assessment quizzes’ (AKA personality tests), normal quizzes with correct/incorrect answers, polls and more.
- The look and feel of their quiz types is excellent – Involve.me obviously hired some talented designers.
- Survey type is below average – one type of quiz they could improve would be the survey. It’s essentially just the quiz module without scoring. (You can tell that because the user interface for the quiz maker shows a ‘correct’ tickbox.)
- Good lead generation and data integrations – we like how much effort Involve.me has put into creating their portfolio of native integrations. They make it simple to grow your email list, by synching all of your quiz responses and leads to your favorite CRM or marketing tool.
- Bonus points for not being like TryInteract, Outgrow, and other providers – they give all their integrations across all plans.
- However, they lose a few points since their webhook is only offered with their highest subscription option.
Things to be cautious @ Involve.me
- Not a GDPR-compliant quiz maker – Much as we like their tool, we were a bit disappointed to see that our analysis shows they aren’t fully GDPR-compliant as an online quiz creator. They’re definitely better than average – especially by refraining from adding cookies and tracking scripts. However, here’s where they fall short:
- No opt-out for Facebook pixel tracking – marketers love using the Facebook Pixel with quizzes. However, Involve.me doesn’t have an option that lets quiz takers opt-out of being tracked. By firing on every quiz, that means you’re collecting data in breach of the EU’s GDPR, and you could face big fines (no matter where your company is located worldwide).
- No DPA (data processing agreement) form – this was strange. True, Involve.me does include a data process agreement page. However you can’t sign this legal document, crucial for GDPR-compliance.
- American cloud based storage – we can see why Involve.me turn to AWS and Google cloud servers. They make life easy for developers, but storing personal data on them (even in their EU servers) violates the GDPR.
- Average image options – Involve.me has done really well with their block layout. However, we wish they put more effort into what sort of images, video, and audio assets you can use with their quiz maker.
- Manual upload pictures only – you can’t search and find images on Involve.me. You have to do it manually, which makes creating a quiz a much slower process. That’s a big oversight, since there are so many great services out there like Pixabay, Pexels, or Unsplash.
- Videos – no start/end points – we were surprised to find while they support a range of video options like YouTube, you have to use the entire clip. There’s no option to set custom start/end points to use just a sort section – that means you have to create and upload a new clip for each question. Painful.
Quiz Maker Review’s rating for Involve.me
- Range of quiz formats: ★★★★☆
- Customization options: ★★★☆☆
- Lead generation: ★★★☆☆
- Data privacy: ★★☆☆☆
- Pricing: ★★★☆☆
- Overall: ★★★☆☆
3. Survey Monkey
Survey Monkey, a legend in the online survey sector, was one of the first companies to design tools that allowed anyone to make their own surveys.
Chris and Ryan Finley, two brothers, founded the company in 1999. Since then, Survey Monkey has evolved into one of the most versatile survey platforms available today – including quizzes and polls.
Check out our full review of Survey Monkey!
What we liked @ Survey Monkey
- Specialize in, well, surveys – now this isn’t going to be a be a surprise, but surveys are where Survey Monkey absolutely crushes it. They provide endlessly customizable quizzes, with robust data collection, statistics, and analytics. If you’re looking for a robust data-heavy survey tool, it’s hard to argue with these guys.
- We love how they include a huge range of sample questions – based on topic and industry.
- Top-notch array of data collection and integrations – Survey Monkey is also hard to beat when it comes to how data is collected and sent on to other tools. Just check out their wide array of data integrations – it’s very impressive.
- Good lead generation – Survey Monkey’s lead generation is pretty solid. On the plus side, you have a wide range of field types to choose from.
- However, the design isn’t very ‘pretty’ for the quiz taker – it feels a bit old-fashioned.
- The form builder is also cumbersome to use – it’s not a drag and drop form builder like more modern quiz maker tools.
Things to be cautious about Survey Monkey:
Survey Monkey does a number of things really well – especially with its laser focus on surveys. If you’re looking to do surveys, we highly recommend them.
However, here are some of the areas you might want to be careful about, in case they affect your particular use case.
- No personality test – this is the biggest concern. Personality tests are crucial for product recommendations, qualifying leads, and other marketing use cases.
- Mediocre quiz module – Survey Monkey does have a quiz option, but frankly, it’s pretty limited.
- You can’t customize each result type with text or images – “You got X/Y… that means you’re <interesting result text”.
- No social sharing – quizzes are inherently viral, but Survey Monkey won’t let your users share their results with friends.
- Cookie dropping and non-GDPR-compliant – alas, Survey Monkey is not a GDPR-compliant online quiz creator. True, they’re not the worst offender in terms of data privacy (cough, cough – that’s you, Typeform). However, Survey Monkey does have these key weaknesses:
- Like Involve.me, personal data is stored with U.S. server providers (in this case, Amazon AWS). That violates the GDPR – since the EU/US Privacy Shield is no longer valid.
- Far worse, Survey Monkey drops eight cookies for each survey taker, with no ability to opt-out. That’s a huge no-go – you could be open to big fines from the EU.
Quiz Maker Review’s rating for Survey Monkey:
- Range of quiz formats: ★☆☆☆☆
- Customization options: ★★☆☆☆
- Lead generation: ★★★★☆
- Data privacy: ★★☆☆☆
- Pricing: ★★★☆☆
- Overall: ★★☆☆☆
Why did we pick these alternatives to LeadQuizzes?

- We recommend you analyze your projected traffic requirements and see which will best meet your needs (and budget).
